Hi, my name is Suze, and by way of a brief introduction – I am 31, and when not busy being a newly minted and highly diligent BA (Internet Studies) Student you can find me up a hill of some sort. I’m in a long term & serious relationship with skiing, and have more recently fallen in love with mountain biking too, overall ‘playing outdoors’ is what I spend my spare time on – camping, bushwalking, running, gardening (although a bit worried I’m turning into my mum with that last one..?).
As for my professional life, it is presently on hold after 10 years in the corporate world as a project manager, I found myself at a crossroads.. time to decide whether to commit and aim for some real progression on my current path, or retrain and change direction. I chose to change, in career and perhaps in general also…you see, lately (well for a while actually) I’ve had these nagging thoughts that the city/corporate life isn’t for me after all….My partner had been making the odd similar noise after uninspiring, overly politcal days in his own fluoro lit day-bubble. A few conversations over too much wine and lots of deep breaths later our ’savings’ (previously destined to become a tiny deposit on an equally tiny Sydney flat) had been redeployed to fund a sabbatical. If that wasn’t enough for one year, free from our corporate jobs we promptly relocated ourselves to a tiny village in northern england… phew!
For the next little while, I’m looking forward to learning about the internet as an form of media that cannot be ignored in modern life… despite being an avid user, and having frequently worked with online as a strategic marketing ‘tool’ in my previous role.. there is so much I do not know, and I am daunted by my relativly low (ok zero) understanding of basic technical terminology that surrounds the subject…. Ultimately I hope to become an online journalist and perhaps consult around new media as a marketing tool.
